History of the Program
The North Catholic Ice Hockey Team has been known for its excellence and championship calibre teams for a very long time. As enrollment began to dwindle at the Troy Hill (where the original school was) location, the hockey team eventually had to fold due to a lack of players. Once the school relocated to Cranberry, and more hockey players enrolled, it became apparent that the team needed to be resurrected.
So, in 2015, Class of 1986 Trojan Hockey Alum Chris Studebaker spearheaded an effort to bring the team back into existence. Along with Dave Martin and other volunteers, Studebaker and the group were able to complete all of the USA Hockey and PIHL requirements for the team to return. The application for acceptance into the PIHL was approved, and after securing ice from the UPMC Lemieux Rink, North Catholic Ice Hockey returned with teams at the Junior Varsity and Middle School levels in the 2016-17 season.
Since then, a Varsity team has been fielded that currently plays in the A division, and has found immediate success, with strong records each year.

LYNN SIPE -- NORTH CATHOLIC -- 1980
The single-season record for goals (65) lasted only one year when Lynn Sipe of North Catholic found the back of the net 68 times in 1980-81. Sipe's new mark would survive most of the decade of the 1980's. It was broken in 1988 by John Mooney of Serra Catholic who scored 102.
CHUCK CHIATTO -- NORTH CATHOLIC -- 1983
Chuck Chiatto of North Catholic was the first player from Western PA selected in the NHL Entry Draft. The Detroit Red Wings picked the talented forward in the 12th round (226th overall) in the draft held in June of 1983.
